Annual scholarship funds for students of Italian heritage who demonstrate the financial need to pursue higher education.

The application for the 2027 scholarship award season will reopen in January 2027. The information below explains the award and what you’ll need to apply.

The Award

$16,000

Total Scholarship

$4,000

Per Year

3.0 GPA

To Renew Each Semester

The Board of Directors will be awarding $16,000 scholarships, paid at $4,000 per year. Awards are renewable at $2,000 a semester provided the student maintains a 3.0 GPA. The scholarship is available to qualifying graduating high school seniors.

As an enhancement to the scholarship award, a Matching Funds Scholarship Program has been established. If an awardee attends one of the participating schools, the award may be increased through this program. See the participating schools below.

Matching Funds Program

Additional scholarship money will be available from institutions of higher education in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas. All schools have been invited to participate in the Matching Fund Program, matching the funds awarded to the students receiving the Pittsburgh Italian Scholarship. Recipients accepted by the participating schools may be eligible for these additional funds.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Student must demonstrate excellent academic performance.
  • Student must demonstrate financial need.
  • At least one parent must be of Italian heritage.

Students, notified by mail, must successfully complete an interview with the Board of Directors. The final selection of the scholarship awardees rests with the Pittsburgh Italian Scholarship Fund Committee. Verification of all information is required. All information in the application is strictly confidential.

How to Apply

When applications open, a submission is complete and valid for consideration only when all of the following are included:

  • Scholarship Application
  • Evaluation Form
  • Family Information
  • Current Complete Official Transcript of Grades
