Our Mission
The Pittsburgh Italian Scholarship Fund was established in 1984 with the mission of assisting academically qualified local high school graduates of Italian ancestry with their college education. We also take great pride in honoring a local Pittsburgh professional of Italian descent who has demonstrated meritorious distinction in his or her profession.
With your ongoing support, we have awarded $3,359,000 in scholarships to 321 students over the past 42 years. Each scholarship is valued at $16,000, paid in $4,000 increments annually, and is contingent on the recipient maintaining academic excellence at the college or university of their choice.
Through our matching scholarship program with 14 local colleges and universities, the value of each award is effectively doubled — an additional $1,700,000, bringing our total impact to date to $5,043,000.
Many of our relatives came to America with a dream of a better life for their children. Foremost in that dream was a wish for their children to receive an education. Let us not forget the sacrifices they made for us as we move forward to help our young people achieve their goals. Together we can keep alive the rich traditions and family values so important to our Italian heritage.
